on my 1950 8N is there an adjustment on the throttle? There doesn't seen to be much difference in RPM when at lever at bottom and all the way open. Is there a governor, it will bog down when running bushog in heavy grass even when in 1st gear.

thanks in advance

Yes, your 8N engine has a governor.

Apparently, your governor is non functional, mis adjusted, or the throttle linkage is out of adjustment.

Don't discount the springs. There is a large one where one side attaches to the corner of the bell housing, sometimes it can fall off in a field and you never even knew it went missing. There is one compressed in the vertical part of the linkage and I think one near the governor. I just replaced my throttle plate where the ball was just worn flat and added a missing spring. I had little luck moving the threaded throttle adjustment rods as it seemed to make little difference. FYI there are cheap hand held lasers that measure RPMS easily. I had to keep driving the tractor and making little adjustments to finally get it right. If you have to remove that throttle plate remember that heating those screws up works wonders. Watch the gas tank when using a torch!!!

I used an impact screwdriver to remove the three screws when I replaced my throttle plate. Worked great.
