8N throttle

If you're lucky, the throttle rod tension spring needs to be adjusted.

Chances are though you need to replace the throttle plate & the ball bearing in the throttle rod.

My 8N was doing that and I installed the Govenor Compensating Spring (8N-9827) that was missing. It is the bottom spring in Bruce's last photo. It works as it should now.

Same here, I didn't have that spring and wouldn't stay in full power. Thought to myself "that little spring can't help me that much, I don't need it". But I finally went and got the spring, installed it, and wow, what a difference that made.

Thanks Bruce. I'm having the same problem (although I have to get it running again before I worry about this little problem!). Looks like this was published when I'd let my subscription to N-News expire. Darn!

(quoted from post at 12:54:12 06/11/12) The throttle on my 8N Ford will not stay at full throttle. When you put it full throttle it flies back and I lose power.

Mine occasionally does that. Gives me a bit of a start when I'm out mowing at full throttle and everything suddenly gets quiet. Mine is very intermittent so what I did was put a drop of JB weld right at the spot where it would hold the throttle where it wanted it. Works great.
