I recently purchased my 2nd 8n which seems to be unmolested. The question is this is the filler for the Trans a cap or plug? My sidemount 1950 has a plug like on the drain. The newest is a sidemount 1951 that has a cap. which is the right one and should I find another cover for one the wrong one.

Both of my late model 8n's have a cap that attaches like a radiator cap. No plug, and mine are like shown in FO-4 manual.
as for the wrong one, if it works, it works, unless you want both to be original.

AFAIK, ALL 8N's used the fill port cover with 2 tabs like a gas tank cap that attached to a stamped steel tranny cover.

9N's and 2N's used an aluminum transmission cover with a screw-in cap. Or NOT?

The original, I believe, was the tab style cap.
But, the transmission cover for a Jubilee/NAA had a screw in cap.
The top covers for the NAA and 8N trans will interchange.
I put an NAA cover on my 8N a while back giving it a screw in cap.

Thanks for the schooling. Every night I go to school (read the forum)I have learned a lot. I think I am gonna leave everything as is. If it aint broke don't fix it. Just was curious as the Manual showed the cap and I had a tractor with a plug so was curious what you all thought and thanks again.
