8n wont start

I have a 8n side mount distrubuter Im fixing he had to turn the
distributor 180degres to start then wince warmed up had to
retard it it took the distributor out took all apart inspected and
cleaned seems every thing seems to be up to shape took off
the insulator wire which was touching the side of distributor so
installed a electrical ignition to do away with the guess work
found top dead center put distributor on #1 cyl wire timed it up
still no start proceeds to change gas then every once in a
while it pops moved distributor every witch way to try to get to
start nothing timed again and only pops once in a while

Holy cow sheet, talk about run-on, fragmented, and incomplete sentences. All I can suggest is to get out your Essential Manuals and start verifying everything in the wiring, ignition, and charging systems. You've (or is it 'he') have mucked up so much I wouldn't know how to best answer you other than manuals are your best tool investment. Don't guess. True root cause Problem Solving is the logical method for troubleshooting.

Recheck your firing order. 1,2,4,3 and if that is correct, get back to us.

Just because a distributor rotor points to #1 when the marks show TDC, doesn't mean it is TDC on compression stroke. That only occurs every other rotation of the engine on a 4 stroke engine. Start by confirming #1 is TDC on its compression stroke, then check where the rotor is pointing.

Was on tdp on compression stroke pointed to #1 plug on cap
and timing marks were on point

Timjzach1 .You do know that there are two sets of timing marks on the flywheel on a 8N side mount 180% from each other.Check one more time at #1 compression stroke with your finger in the plug hole, TDC on the flywheel and see where the rotor is at. Any one can make a mistake check it again.

yep!,Now set the rotor to #1 AND START IT UP!
