8N won't start

While operating my 8N, running fine, it died. When investigating the trouble, I discovered a wire melted and stuck to the manifold. What part of the electrical system have I short-circuited?

ook & see where the two ends attach! Probably the coil wire from ign switch, but no way for me to guess who has run what wire where in the last 60 years on any given tractor.

Pretty much no way for any of us to know that for sure since you have not told us enough to go on. 6 or 12 volts front or side mount distributor?? As for what wire it might be well could be the wire going to the coil could be on going to the lights if it has them or one going to the genny or alternator depending on which it has. Only way to figure it out is trace where the wires go and then if you do that you will be able to answer your own question

take a pic and post it, and also run the wire ends to their origin and destination and see what you have shorted.

maybee just the primary line to the coil ( and might have damaged the ignition switch as well ).. or maybee something else...
