8n wring diagram

it doesnt seem to want to charge unless i run it at full throttle and i get an arc on the starter post when try to start it

Well, your starter post might be loose and it may have a one wire alternator instead of a 3 wire alternator. Or, you just may have a bunch of bad connections.

1-wire alternators have to be sped up for them to start charging. Once they start charging they will then continue charging a low speeds. 3-wire alternators will start charging at low speeds.

Shemi.........sounds like you have the deceptively desirable 1-wire alternator conversion instedda the 3-wire conversion. The 3-wire conversion starts charging at about 600rpms like Delco and General Motors designed it. The 1-wire conversion needs to be "jazzed" to about 1800rpms before the internal voltage regulator kicks in. Once kicked in, it will charge at about 600rpms too. I don't know about you, I don't like jazzin' a COLD tractor engine to almost wide open before the alternator kicks in.

Iff'n you still have doubts about yer alternator, take it in to enny autoparts store for a "free" check-out. Simple, eh?

You write......."i get an arc on the starter post when try to start it"........well gee, you don't suppose yer connection is LOOSE, do you???.........respectfully, Dell, a 12-volt advocate for the right reasons who knows 8-ways to convert to 12-volts and they all work
