8o6 compression

How does one check the compression on a 361 diesel. Do they make a tester or do you have to convert an old injector. And does anyone know what its supposed to be.

i have not checked compression on these engines. but the dealer should have a tester u could get an idea of what you need to make one. 600 lb gauge, some hyd. hose fittings , check valve. pretty sure it would be something to replace the injector. the compression would be around 375-400 psi i would think. maybe someone knows a closer number. dont think you would want to be spending a bunch of money for a one time check. maybe someone has one you could rent.

So would a hyd oil pressure gauge work, they are reasoanable, i bought a 1,000 lb gauge couple years ago, maybe 30-35 US, but the rigging to get it useable might be a lot more!!!

that is exactly what i would use if i built one, presume you mean glycerin filled, with a #4 hyd. hose. just use a lower numbered like 600 psi but 1000 will be good also. it just that on gauges you want them reading at 3/4 of the way to the end for accuracy . you would not check tire pressure with a 300 lb guge. it is the injector fitting and check valve be the most.

I did a web search for ..diesel compression tester.. I see several offerings in the $40 to $130 range. The one in the link is $40 so the quality would be very questionable in my mind. It does look like it has an adapter to glow plugs.
Tester example

If it is starting good I would not worry about the compression. if it is missing then probably one cylinder is off. If not starting good could be just the valve setting or seats/valves are to deep in the head.

HF sells a compression testing kit. Think about 50 bux for the one that has the extra adapters for various engines with spark plugs and glow plugs.

Take a test adapter in the injector hole and for the rest of you there is NO GLOW PLUG in a D-DT 361-407 -310-312- 358 -360-414- 436- 466. Only on the OLD indirect injection .
