9-n handcrank

can anyone tell me how the original engine handcrank was stored on the tractor? were these shipped with the tractor? does anyone have a photo of this?

I have one and am not sure where it was stored, but it is just a solid rod with a double 90*bend on one end,and a pin in the other.---lha

The crank was never intended to be stored on the tractor. As you know the N tractors had starters and the crank was for use only in case the battery was found low. The crank was shipped with the delivery kit that came with each tractor and included items like the manual, delivery papers, warranty, drawbar, lynch pins, top link w/pins and chain, drawbar stays and warning tag with chain, tools like plow wrench, plug wrench, adjustable wrench, screwdriver, pliers etc. Wrenches and other tools varied over the years having a tendency to get lesser and lesser in numbers. Doing this from memory so I'm sure I omitted something.

Mark.......dunno fer shure, but I suspect the WW2 2N's with magneto and armstrong starter (crank) probably had some sorta "keeper" scheme to keep it hanging from the front radiator crank'em-hole without falling out. It gitts OLD FAST, hiking back to the barn to re-start yer tractor out in the field ......Dell the old tired hiker

thank all of you for the replys and a special thanks to don in ms. for taking the time to show detailed pictures of the crank location and the mounting bracket.

Although its a pretty functional add on holder should you wish to carry a crank but by no means is it an original Ford Tractor part. Only N tractor cranks that were factory attached were the electric deletes such as some wartime 2N's.

Gas pump,Did you not read my post completely?
It is a 1943 2N war time model. It came from the factory without a battery, starter, generator, amp gauge,(was years ago just a knock out plug in the left side of the dash)distributor,Starter push button on the tranny cover,(just a plug there)a starter switch at the bottom of the steering support.A starter and battery, generator, distributor were added to it at some point in time.

Yeah I read it pretty darn well and I just would like to mention that somehow we have strayed to the wartime electric delete 2N from the topic in the headline that I'm refering to, "9-N Handcrank". You have a nice crank holder there but somehow it does not resemble an original 2N electric delete part

Since opinions are like nostrils, (we all have at least ONE)... I keep my hand crank laying behind the exhaust manifold next to the head...handle goes to the rear... it has been there since Dad bought the tractor new in '46. Never moves unless it is being used. Just lays in there nice...

Your call...

We used to slip the crank in behind the bracket that held the rear work light. That was back then when we used the crank quite a bit because dad couldn't afford a new battery. A little bitty hill and a 3rd gear start was preferred over the crank.
