915 Combine

Not one of IH's finest products for sure. Not many parts available for them anymore either. You would be much better off finding a nice axial flow machine. Much better machine, plenty of parts available and they can be found at affordable prices.

I think they came out in '69 or '70 and were made until about '78. Early "high profile" combines had a choice between what was basically a V-8 gas or LPG truck engine or the DT-407, one of IH's finest diesel engines they ever made. Far too many of the gasoline-powered combines suffered from fires.

Later "low profile" combines got wet sleeve diesels and the gasoline/LPG options were discontinued.

Ex Father-in-law had an 815 for a couple of years. Seemed like there was an issue with getting insurance on it because of the reputation of those machines for burning up? Other than that, it seemed to be a good enough machine.

Harry's right. A 915 would load up the straw walkers and either throw out the straw walkers or break the crankshaft. One of IH's best looking combines but ranks up there just below the 315 as one of IH's bad designs.
