Can anyone tell me if they have had better luck with one specific type or brand of steering pump belts on their 930? I try to keep mine as tight as possible to stop slippage but in doing so I have to change them once a year because they stretch so much (the conversion to an alternator doesn"t leave me with a lot of adjustment). Anyone with a 930 will know what I"m talking about. They really are a great tractor but the steering is crap to say the least, especially with a loader mounted.
Thanks

I have owned two 930"s one a 1960 930 LP and still own a 1966 930 CK Diesel. I had the same trouble. Here is what I did. I changed the (water pump, fan pulley) with the pulley from a 830. It is bigger in diamiter. Remember to buy the belts for a 830. And no it does not get hot using the bigger pulley. In fact it runs cooler because a slipping pulley moves less water... The fans on these tractors will only go so fast no matter how tight you get the belts. When they moved the RPM"s up is when they had slipping problems...

Thanks for the reply. I think I get what you mean. By using the larger diameter pully there is more belt contact and less slippage? It is the power steering pump that causes the slippage, correct? I know when I turn the steering wheel you can actually hear the fan slow down because the belts are slipping. So would I change the pulley on the p.s. pump, the crank, or the water pump? The p.s. I"m assuming...
Thanks

I just changed the water pump. Since I changed I adj. the belts very seldom. Belts and pulley's last longer. I'ts too bad the pully on the alt.'s are so amall around. They don't need to run that fast..

Ray another thing to remember is that keeping the belts fiddle string tight places undue side loading on all of the shafts in the systems and wears our bushings and bearings quicker atually reducing the life of your alternators and water pumps.

I agree totally. Everytime I tighten them I cringe because I know the alt. bearings are crying! I was hoping someone knew of a high traction belt to try. What about the Goodyear Gatorbacks?
Thanks
