Has anyone out there had any experience with a Ford 950 5 speed.
I have just purchased a 950 5 speed and it jumps out of second gear very easy. In fact under load it is very difficult to hold it in second gear.

Can this be repaired from under the top cover or will it require the transmission be removedd and completely dis-assembled? I suspect it is a major tear down but thougfht I would ask.

Thanks,

It could be as simple as a worn detent plunger which can be changed from the outside. It could also be worn teeth on a sliding coupler which requires a complete transmission disassembly.
It is usually 3rd gear that jumps out.

More than likely not your dent if it stays in 1st gear. There are no new parts available for the 5 speed tranny. so, as you go about solving this problem, With used parts, you might have to make some thrust washers to keep the gear side play to a minimum, which is, a lot of times, the problem with the 5 speed gear jumpers.
