96 freightliner

I have a 96 freightliner with a 3176B cat was a couple miles from home turned a corner. When i sarted to shift up let off the fuel it made a popping sound through the exhaust did it about 3 or 4 times then quit. Noticed it was low on power and temp was coming up alot quicker.Drove it about 15 miles stopped for awhile checked the oil had gone up some took it home checked it again about 1/2 in. up over full pretty sure it is fuel engine seems to run good no missing, oil pressure is good,any advice?

Do a Google search for the 3176. Based on what little I saw those engines had alot of problems in each serial number range, and there is alot of talk about them as a result. Check things out and you might find someone else who has had the same problem your having. Good luck..

The 3126 will pump oil into the fuel(o rings on the injectors) but I don t know the 3176.

Never heard of it myself either. I just did a search because I like to learn about stuff I don't know about. Below is a link to just one of the sites that came up with a search for "3176 CAT engine problems". Seems like it was an older engine with at least it's fare share of problems and then some.

acording to the link you gave me mine should be the better one it starts with 9CK# souds like injectors or tips.It did soud like a short jake when i went to shift.Hope my service guy can look at it pretty soon. thanks
