960 Case hydraulics

I have a Case 960 that the header won't go up properly. Once on a rare occasion it will go all the way up.99.9% of the time you have to keep feathering the lever and it goes up 1/2 an inch at a time. What might be the issue here ? Thx John

If your belt is good and tight, and its full of oil, I would say you have a relief issue, unless your pump has been ran dry and damaged, in all my years with Case combines I have seen that condition twice is all, once the pump was shot but it would raise the head fine when the oil was cold,, but just like you describe when it was hot, the other time it was a relief, I had to pull the valve to work on the relief and already had a good extra valve off and on the shelf so i just swapped it rather than fix it then,, they are pretty simple systems though the parts book will show you the parts breakdown of them to go by

I have the same problem right now with a 960 and found the problem to be the lift cylinder itself located under the feeder house. Changed it out and now lifts just fine.
