960 oil leak

Once I get this 960 up to operating temp and then shut it down after using it a while, I get this drip
for a bit. It stops after about 5 miutes or so after leaking about a 1/2 of shotglass of oil from the
weep hole with the cotter key. It's definately engine oil. What do you think? Main seal? Is it worth
tearing into for that amount? Thanks! Tom

Yes, it is a substantial leak, but the repair job on that motor is in my opinion more than a "substantial" job. You are most likely into a complete engine job, because who is not going to closely inspect their rod and main bearings and crank with their motor upside down on a stand? Just the seal itself is a pain in the butt job. If you decide to go ahead ge the kit with the twom piece lip seal instead of the rope seal.

That seal can be changed from under the bottom with the engine in the tractor.I just changed one in an 860, which I jacked the front end up about 6" so I could do it.It takes a little work to get the old rope seal out,so I loosened up the 2nd main about 1/2 turn to let the crank down slightly ,then replaced with the rubber type seal.
