970-1070-1175 pulling tractor

I was wondering what you guys think, I can buy a 2670 for a good price, bad power shift. I was thinking about using that engine in a 9 or 1070 for pulling on weekends once in a while, what is the maximum hp you can get from that engine in stock form, without head work or tearing into the engine, just turning up fuel, changing timing and increasing rpm, what would be a safe rpm? Also if you guys had a choice with that engine, what tractor would you put it in, 9-1070 , 1175 or 930, just thinking about starting another project, I like pulling with the 830 Case O Matic, but thinking this would be fun too.
Thanks
Ben

300 hp with a 3lm charger and the big factory lines at 3000 rpm.
Going over that will you need fire rings and heavy cltuch springs.
If you are running low mph the plantaries put it to the ground easier. If you stay in high first you will compete well in the 12500-14000 lb classes. If you are running lighter and faster then the 9 and 1070 would be better IMO

In any situation you should stay with the 8 speed, you will soon be knocking out C2 and overcoming the Torque limiter, I know people who are using the 8 speed at extreme HP and no problems.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. I think I will start looking for a tractor this winter to start this project. If you run a water injection system to keep things cool is it possible to get more hp from a 2670 504, without getting into the engine, or is 300hp about the max? What is the best clutch to use in this setup, im just wondering what this would roughly cost with a clutch, and water injection, and other needed parts, if you had the tractor and engine already.
Thanks
Ben

Sorry I just remembered the comment about the fire rings, what is involved with the fire rings? What head gaskets do you guys use,
Ben

there is one already together with a 1030 rear also have a 400 and a 900 that could be used will sell the tractor and all the parts fairly cheap or any of the above in the combination you wish. Somehow got more tractors than I can fix or run.

If you need water you are in a whole different ball game.
I think you would need a different cam, head work fire rings, beefed up clutch or a double disc clutch, at least 93 lines maybe 5 18 injectors and a 600 cc pump.
What class are you wanting to run? 300 hp is about the limit with mostly stock parts.

Ben,my neighbor has a 1175 with lots of blow by but rear end seems to be good. The cab says demonstrator on but the hood is all white so not sure what it is. Reasonable price.Located by Stanton Ne if you are interested.Darrell
