970 Case Bogging down

Hello all,

I have a 1970 Case 970 6 cylinder Diesel tractor with the the 12 speed power shift. Last time I used it I was mowing alfalfa. I went to shift gears, and when I stepped on the
clutch the motor started to bog down (like its under load) and would have died except I quickly shifted gears and let it out. It was pulling fine, PTO was working fine. I was
just about done, so I finished up and went to shut down for the night. With the throttle running at 85%. I stepped on the clutch and it bogged down and died. I tried to start it
back up, with it in neutral. The RPM's went up for about 1 second and started to bog down until I let the clutch out. Then it idled fine. As soon as I step on the clutch it
bogged down and would die if I didn't let off.

Ok so here is the odd part, I have had it do the exact opposite. I would be able to start the tractor in neutral with the clutch out. As soon as the clutch was depressed it
would bog down and die if you didnt let off. Usually after it warmed up, it would stop and there would not be any more problems.

If it was cool or cold out, 35 degrees or lower if i were to put it in reverse it would bog down and die, no matter how high the throttle. After it warmed up it would stop.

Brakes have never really worked, peddles are always just hard, even after I bled them.

Steering started to want and kind of do its own driving. Had to fight it a little right as this last problem started.

So far since this happened I have service the tractor, Both Hydraulic filter, Both fuel filters, oil change, Air filter is about 1 month old. Made sure the Hydraulic oil is not
over full, using the site glass.

Decided to clean up the Valve body that is under your feet. Not sure what its called. But pulled up the plate, removed it, took it apart and clean each peice, ran brushes
through the valve body. put all together and no change.

Not sure were to look next.

Ideas???
