970 motor swap

Im going to asume you are building a 8speed tractor. My suggestion would be get a flywheel and clutch set from a 1070 or 1175. The 970 is a 14 inch clutch and the others are a 15 inch. Depending on what you are going to do for engine performance and weight class will make a diff on what to do. You can beef up a 15 inch to hold alot of power. Thad

No it is a poweer shift i dont think it will be a problem. i plan to have enough power that i dont need to use it so there is enough room for a bigger clutch

There isnt any bigger clutches for a powershift. The torquelimiter will be your 1st area of concern. It will slip if you make alot of power.

Agree with Thad. At around 150 hp. you are going to slip the TL disc. If you are going to pull say a 9500 lbs. 5 mph limit class, 130ish hp with what you want to do will be fine. If you are thinking of 200+hp you better find a 8 spd. tractor.

I have a 1370 with 350+ hp i pull it in 13,000- 16,000 7 mph farm class no trouble with powershift except broke shaft through the power shift clutches because it is hollow i tried to up date it to a 90 series wich is not but would not fit. I can't hold the head gaskets though plus its terrible heavy to haul wanting to get in the light classes.

can you put the eight speed in a pwershift tractor or do you just change the transmission

If you want to keep the powershift i know a guy who pulls one. He took the hub from a torque limiter and had it welded into a solid plate. He then bolted it to the flywheel inplace of the factory limiter. He made sure the pressure on the ps was bummped up a little. He pulls 10000lbs and he is a little over 300hp. To make your tractor a 8 speed you need a whole rearend. Thad
