970 Seat Question

I just picked this 970 last week. I got it home, and began going through some repairs. Things like a new fan belt, new tie rod end, and changing the fluids. The one thing I need is to figure out how to make the seat move back. When I sit down, it goes down which puts me way to close for the pedals. How does the seat slide back on this baby?

The seat suspension is not correct for the color of your tractor. That suspension was used on the last of
the 70 series tractors, and 90 series, however there should be a small lever with knob on the left side of
the lower angled frame that will allow you to slide the top portion of the suspension down and forward, or
up and back.
Here is a pic of the suspension used on Desert Sunset tractors. Notice my suspension is raised off the
platform with 4 spacers. I am over 6' tall and needed more leg room.
The black knob and lever let the seat slide diagonally, forward and back.

Thank you very much Loren. The tractor has been painted, and I have a feeling that has it stuck. I will have to do some work to get it to move back and up so to speak. I’m only 5’ 10”, but the way it is, I have to really move my legs to get comfortable using the pedals. Too cramped. I have lots of questions on this tractor. I will be posting more as I get time. I’m a school teacher, and farmer. My love of JI Case tractors runs deep. Thanks again sir.

I have a 770 and I found the tracks were dry and rusty. I had to use spray wd40 and a hammer to move it. Once it started to move the more wd40 on it the better it worked. Jerry from Ohio

I agree with the knees in the chin. I will finally get a handle on this thing. lol Once I am comfortable in the seat, I will enjoy this tractor more.

Your suspension looks to be shot. Fix it and the low height is no long a problem, she will ride 4" or better higher. I am 6' 4" and have no issues unless it is bottomed out.

I know the bushings, springs, and shock are obscenely priced from Case, if they are even available any more. I have a work around using a truck cab air bag, suspension bushings for a race car and a few small odds and ends. Under $50 to turn one of those iron bases into an air ride. I have done several. As much as you like fabricating, it should be right up your alley. Will post a tutorial on the next chance I get to take pictures.

Over the weekend, my nephew and I got the seat moving or sliding back away from the clutch and brake pedals. A little PB, a wood block, and a hammer. The tracks were in bad shape. The more we sprayed and worked, the better it moved.

Now, the work begins on the spring and shock. We have noticed that the more we tighten the handle behind your left leg, the more stiff the spring gets. This allows the ride height to be more firm. Makes for a better feel in the seat.
