Bought a 971 with broken shift cable the top one when I took apart could see where they tried to braze it and that's where it broke. Put in another cable drove it a little it acts like it broke again have 6th gear to move it have not tore it apart again any ideas the rest of the tractor is just fine.

Since you have the manual I assume that you followed the procedure in the manual to replace the broken cable. If the wiring is original and it starts, then It must be shifting into Park in order to start it, and since you claim it still has 6th gear to move it, then the cable cannot be broken as it shifts between Park and 6th. So the problem must be elsewhere. Have you gone through the procedures for testing the pressure in the various gears and adjusting the bands?

(quoted from post at 22:13:25 09/22/22) I have jumpered around the park switch so I can start and move it.

So it is stuck in 6th gear then? Have you removed the upper cable again to see if it indeed broken?
