986 injector issues

i have a 1978 986 that is having some blow by up between the injectors and the sleeves. #2 & #4 injectors both are having the problems. #2 has blown the dust seal out partially and #4 was apparently leaking and at some point and carboned itself back shut. I am not able yet to pry the injectors up and out so i was going to build an adapter to thread onto the injector and slide hammer it up n out. What is the NPT thread size on the injectors?

I'd keep applying some diesel fuel to the injector crack in the head to soak the carbon loose then it may come out. Also could apply heat sparingly to the head around that injector to help with the soaking and to get the carbon to let the fuel soak in better.

well if 4 isnt leakong I would leave that one alone. Is 2 actually leaking or did you just see dust cover partly out? It mat have been that way for a long time and you just never noticed it

Good to know. I got the JIC from Ag Talk as I need to build a puller to pull mine. I will go get a 14 mm nut tomorrow.

Thanks Dieseltech

yes they both are leaking. #2 had a loud ticking noise to it which got my attention. #4 isnt making any noise but you can feel the air shooting out of it.

Let me add this , if your going to be pulling or tryen to pull the injector that is stuck , then drain the cooling system as 99 times out of a 100 the injector sleeve will come with the injector and when this happens you dump your coolant into the engine . Then you get to learn how to install a new sleeve / CUP.
