What is the time frame for the JD model 999 2 row check planter? According to the book by Don McMillan "it was still in the line after WW II". I would like to know the time range from its introduction to its last year of production. I realize that this request my be hard to accurately fill, but thanks for any responses.

Not sure on the time frame, but you could buy an adapter to make it a 3-point hitch from Tractor Supply in the late 50's.

1911 to 1956 is what I have seen. If you search this forum there are a few posts on the topic.

I appreciate those replies. I did further "research" and found more info via the JD manuals website. A 999 manual says 1912 to 1936 for 999 and 1936 to at least after World War Two (1945?) for 999L. Not real sure of the "L".

I like the 1911 to 1956 response as that would fit with the JD Manuals information.

I don't own one of these - just helping to identify and properly label one for history at the facility where I volunteer.

My father had one in the 40-50's ,chechkwire ,fertilizer ,and bean seeding attachments. About 1956 we took off the front castor wheel and adapted it to 3-pt to fit our Ford Jubilee which we narrowed to 40" and used it to wheel track plant corn .

I have three of those, one is a parts planter my Dad's uncle used on a Farmall H, my grandma's brother sold us one with 3 point for 8N we used it for about twenty years, then I have one that was givento mee that still has the tongue on it as well as the wire sprockets.
