9N/2N differences

Trying hard to find data on exact differences between the 9N/2N.

I know that the early 2Ns had no generator and were crank started using a magneto because of legalities of WWII. I understand they also incorporated a pressurized radiator.

Did they move the left brake pedal to the right side of the transmission case? I believe the 9N had the clutch and left brake pedal on the left side. Did the 2N maybe also incorporate a rudimentary running board of sorts where the 9N only had pegs?

What else changed between these two? TIA

I can not give you all the info but a bit of it I can. The early 9N had a starter button on the dash with out the shifter safety. The 9N also had the aluminum hood and steering column area. The 9N had the I-Beam type radius rods.
Now for the 2N. The mag was not at all common on the 2N ya a few had them but not all that many. The 2N used steel to replace the aluminum parts. The 2N also had the tube type radius rods.
Now how they where the same. Both had front mount distributor. Both had the clutch and left brake on the left side and the right brake on the right side. Both had 3 forward speeds. Both did not have the draft control. Both came out with the 19 inch wheels but may have been an option later.
I know there is a lot more to it all and some of the things did carry over to some of the early 2N from what I have been told

There were updates along the way, like the oval radius rods soundGuy mentioned, but they were very hard to tell apart.
Even the serial numbers. They all start with 9N and are on the obviously changeable engines.
John's site has tons of data, and even with that data the only way I know of
to tell with relative certainty is the date castings on all of the pieces.

Larry........because of WW2 price control board (to prevent inflation) Ford was caught innna bind; Rubber fer ag-bar tires went up in price; lead in batterys was being used in bullets; copper in wiring was being use in bullets; ...etc... so Ford started the 2N in May 1942 so they could boost the price according the the WPB. The blue oval Ford radiator emblem has a little 2N under Ford script. So Ford put STEEL ag-bar tires on, putta magneto ignition on inplace of the weird 4-nipple frontmount dizzy; and then putta hand choke knob thru the radiator shell so you could hand crank and start yer engine. Surprizingly enuff, there was plenty of clear "white-gas" fer the low compression engine to run on. Farmers gotta extra ration fer white-gas. They found out it was IMPORTANT to feed soldiers, they needed tractors to grow food. Within 6-mos, rubber and lead and copper became available. Many early 2N's were converted back to 6V starters, 6V gennys, rubber ag-bar tires and 4-nipple frontmount dizzys. You seldom see magnetos enny more .........historian Dell
