9N/2N Transmission

I recently acquired a mutt tractor that I call a 1946 2N due to its engine serial number and casting code.

However, it has 9N cast radiator, I-beam radius arms, etc.

The interesting thing I've found is the transmission (3 speed) - there is no dipstick at all.

Any ideas on this one?

Thanks.

Caleb.......would you believe the EARLY 9N's did NOT have a tranny dipstick in the 6"-roundy plate behind yer right heel. They hadda "fill to overflow" side plug over yer right toe and the fill'em-up was a larger top tranny bolt near the tranny shifter.

You can always fit a later 6"-roundy dipstick plate. And you can check and prevent OVERFILL by removing the bottom 6-o'clock bolt and lettin' ennny overfill drain out the side of yer tranny overnite.

Remember, yer rear axle bearings are "splash" lube'd from the diffy and yer steering gearbox is also splash lube'd by an tranny oil slinger. OVERFILL will grease yer brakes ...or... clutch plate. Not good, eh? ........Dell
