9n carb/gov

Hi all
As I had posted before, I purchased a 9n a few years back... She ran good for a few years, then ran into electrical issues... my father mowed with one for 30 yrs... so, I left it at his house for him to use... We used it mostly to just haul a wood wagon....
Well, I needed it to do some mowing jobs... My father gave me the heavy duty MF mower for it.... I took it to some farmer friends of mine that worked on it..... My father had a friend of his teach him how to bypass something by runing a wire from a bat terminal to the top of coil to get it started... needless to say, I replaced the points, distributor, coil, condensor, and while it was apart, put new wires, plugs, ect in it....
This cost me some money... lol... now, after I read much online, and on here, I probably could have fixed the thing myself!! I had to change a resistor block, and am working on a few other things....
My buddy put a new carb on it... and since then, I have minimal throttle contol... It was fine with old carb... I move the butterfly shaft, and in less than 1/8 of an inch, she throttles wide open.... The gov assemble seems loose, but, he never replaced any of that.... This butterfly seems touchy... any ideas before I rip the carb off and investigate?

Tom..........from yer description, it aint'chur carb, its yer governor rods. Sounds like they've been swapped. ........Dell

Dell... I thought of that... I diconnected the gov linkage to carb, and moved butterfly control manually... I can only assume that with a new carb, a new butterfly shaft comes with it... I simply "touch it", and she goes to almost full throttle.... is shaft no good?? Why would that thing open right up by simply moving it that little? I was not there to supervise how my buddy fixed this thing... but I DO know, it aint going back there... lol I will leave it to the people on here, that at least seem to know what they are talking about...
What next? Could the shaft be bad?

... I went with the possibility that he may have bent something, that is why I went to manual carb control.... seems to be a direct carb issue...

With what you had posted.....I would also have thought either swapped hook-ups on the gov. rods Or...more simple bent rods on the gov to the carb.
But there is a possibility that the throttle plate was installed backwards...(which I would think is dang hard to do), OR...the throttle plate, hold-down screws were tightened down and the tops were broken off, letting the plate "Float" in the throttle bore.
If before you take the carb off...you could post a picture of the carb hooked up, the way it is now.....then take the carb off the manny and take a picture of the inside of the throttle bore with the plate installed as is..... Maybe I could see the problem, and help ya with it.
If it ain't the gov. rod to carb.....then the prob. HAS to be in the bore of the throttle body....(the way it was installed!!!!)
I do a lot of carb overhauls, and you would not believe, what I find sometimes!!!

.... she is all fixed.... 75% better throttle control... there is some play in the gov bearing... doesn't work as it should.... but the carb was all screwed up.... adjusted to specs, and she idles nice... throttles up nice..
