9N Engine popping

While idling the engine has a popping sound coming from the exhaust pipe. It doesn't seem to effect the running of the engine and it starts and runs perfectly. It does not lack power at any speed or when using the front loader.It does not pop under load or at hi RPMs, just idle. I've rebuilt the carb, installed new wires and plugs.

Checked your point gap?

Mine pops, too, and it eventually started doing it more, then running rough. Points were off... set 'em and she's running good again.

I have spent hundreds of dollars and man hours trying to track this down on my N"s. I have found it is just a normal by-product of an inefficient fuel delivery system. Does not hurt performance one bit and adds character

I am another one who has spent lots of money getting my 2N to run like I want it to. Mine was because of wrong valve springs even though they were all new. Valves and guides were new too. I just couldn"t accept it as it was because I know they are suppose to run "right".
