9n ford motor sounds

If I am going down a moderatly steep grade the motor sounds like popcorn popping/or a rock being thrown around inside the lower part of the motor. Could this be my oil pump is bad? My dad wants me to tell all that the Motor does have enough oil checks it everyday loves his 9n.

Since these engines don't have hydraulic valve lifters, they don't begin clattering loudly as QUICKLY as modern engines do, if oil pressure is lost.

And, once they DO begin to clatter from loss of oil pressure, typically, bearing damage is already done.

How long has it been doing this?

What is the oil pressure while it's making the noise?

Have you ruled out the fan hitting the radiator shroud, or other things of that nature, up front?

Is it possible some junk (spare starter drive parts) is getting slung around inside the bellhousing?

Thank you so much!! The fan is cleaning fine so it is inside. The oil pressure is at 19 pounds. Something sounds like a sewing machine also. Which I am guessing are the valves that increase and decrease with RPMs. "To be reseated this spring." by dear old dad. The popping / crackling is what I am worried about at this point. Thank you again Bob, please advice as much as you would like.

Hand crank anyone?

Take the starter off and crank it the old way, with a hand crank. Then go down your hill see if it does the same thing. Or if it does if it"s louder. Just a thought.
