9N Front mount no spark problem

Yes, I have charged the battery but I must admit it is a weak battery. I always charge it before attempting to start (since I have had this problem) but I know it has a bad cell per the hydrometer. I figured after charging, since the engine turns over good, that it would be good enough to provide spark as well.

No.

Please read what we are telling you. If you do not understand it, then ask questions.

I said on Wednesday when you first posted:

" As the battery gets weaker, the first thing to fail is your spark. If the battery is almost totally dead, all you will hear is the solenoid clicking.

The more current you use to spin the starter, the less you have for the ignition."

Did you miss that? Not understand it? Disagree with the advice?

If a battery has a bad cell in it then that battery is a full 2 volt lower then it should be so that is enough to cause many odd problems. If you think about it and ad thing up. A 6 volt battery has 3 cells so that is 2 volts per cell so 2X3=6 and on a 12 volt battery 6X2=12 so your battery is a full 2 volts low and that in turn adds up to even lower volts since the other cells have to make up for the bad one and the resistance of the bad cell

Have you checked for spark? If it spins over good there should be enough for spark too unless you have other problems.

your battery may have a weak or bad cell if you have to boost it at each start.

spark will suffer with a weak battery.

(quoted from post at 21:54:50 12/28/13) I have tractors that don't get used much with old weak batteries. Even if they turn over slow, they still start.
I have Farmalls and Allis Chalmers that will do that too.
Mine are magneto fired ignitions though.
I hand crank them if they don't want to start fast enough.
I don't know what your tractors are, but N's can be picky.
Specially with the crab distributor that many do not understand.
