9N Front mount no spark problem

Brand new battery. Charged overnight. No start. Fuel good flow out of bottom of carb. Pulled 2 and 3 plug, grounded to head, turned over, no spark. Before new battery purchase, performed continuity test on coil/points, everything checked out there.

Start over. One step at a time.

With the points open, what is the voltage at the top of the coil?

What is the voltage w/ the points closed?

Post back w/ that info before you pull the distributor.

When I started this project I had voltage to top of coil. Now, putting pos lead on engine and neg lead on coil I get no reading with key on.

Then you have no voltage to the coil.

Check voltage across the ignition switch. If you find the problem there, jump the switch.

If the switch works, then check all the way to the coil; pay particular attention to the resistor & connections there.

6v or 12v?

As I said before hot wire it. Run a wire from the ignition side of the battery to the coil and check for spark at all 4 plugs. If you have spark then your problem if from the coil back to the battery. If you do not have spark then your problem i in the distributors

old, I ran a test lead from the negative post to the coil and pulled the #2 and #3 plugs and there is no spark. I wonder if I could have something connected wrong at the resistor block. I thought I labeled everything correctly when I took the wiring off (I was going to install a new wiring harness - had so much trouble with the new plug wires back in the tube I skipped the harness).

Sorry it took so long for me to respond. I have been having trouble with my DSL modem.

So your saying this is a + ground tractor as in 6 volts right??? If you can answer yes then you problem is in the distributor since when hot wired you have no spark since hot wiring it tokes all the wiring out of the system other then the distributor it self

Yes, positive ground 6 volts. Brand new distributor ordered from this site, as a matter of fact.

" I ran a test lead from the negative post to the coil and pulled the #2 and #3 plugs and there is no spark. "

Go back & do it again.

Once you get the hot wire in place, (from the battery & no where else) check the voltage on it. If you have 6.35v or so, hook the jumper wire directly to the coil.

Then check for spark.

If you have 6.35v to the coil & no spark, then pull the distributor. The problem is in the distributor; take your time & follow the previous post I sent you & you will find it.

Most likely the problem is a very simple one. Many times points have a coating on them to protect them so very good chance a good cleaning of the points will fix your spark problem

I dressed the points with a $1.00 bill (per Dell's previous posts) and this made no difference. Will try Bruce"s latest suggestion as soon as possible.
