9n governor washer

Hi all, I recently took on a project of tearing down and inspecting a 9n governor. This is my first time dealing with a Ford so bear with me. I have it torn down and have
new parts coming that were worn. I have a question about a part that was missing when I tore it apart. It is the washer directly behind the drive gear, it was non-
existent when I tore it down. The manual, TO4 I believe, does not show it in the exploded view. However, I found an exploded view on another website that has it shown and
lists it as part #357319. Should this washer be installed? I bought one just in case. The back of the gear doesn't show signs of too much wear, I'd assume that without
the washer the gear would tend to rub against the steel cap.

You are looking at a later 8N parts manual or the I&T FO-4 Manual. Is your governor cast iron? The first early 9N governors were cast iron and had no oil lube line ?those were added later. They also do not use the 357319-S fiber washer ?those came with the 50-52 8N governor when they went to the Proofmeter addition. MPC lists the 357319-S washer as: .44" I.D. -fibre - flat-used in 8N18204-B or C governor, so your 9N governor would not have it. The 9N/2N governor had three arms, the 8N had two arms. The rebuild kits sold today are generic and do not have all the needed parts. You could have a later swapped out unit. There is a governor Service & Repair manual for free downloading at the NTC site ?see link info below. MPC?s also have the exploded views of the governors.

Thank you for the helpful info. The governor is some kind of cast tin/pot metal, it has 3 governor arms.

Cast tin or pot metal? No, it's aluminum if OEM, but if a newer aftermarket unit could very well be pot metal!!! It should have an oil lube line as well.
