9N Hydraulics

I have a 8N(1952)&9N(1940)restored,orginal colors. Thanks again to Dell, Zane and others who helped me with my problems with the 9N back in 2009. Now my problem is, I cannot get the check/safety(relief)valve out of the pump housing, on the 9N. I think it has been in there since 1940(Has cotter pin in the end of it, new one does not). Fluid is drained, PTO shaft is removed, pump is still in tractor. I have the control lever fork disconnected from the control valve, per the Manual. Now, all I have to do is remove the bolts on bottom of pump housing and the pump will drop down. Is this all I have to do to get the pump out? Another question. The FORD FO-4 Manual,(Page 96,FO145) shows an oil tube going from pump to lift cover on the 8N. How does the hydraulic fluid get from the pump to lift cover on the 9N? Thanks again for this great Forum.

The original relief valve is no longer avalable.

The 9N/2n has the same tube as the 8N. Same place.

I can't understand why you can't get the relief vlave out???? Will it not turn???? Are you turning it counter clockwise to remove it????
Should just screw right out. No need to remove the pump to remove the relief valve that I can see.

Zane: All I have for now is an 11/16" open end wrench, I am turning it counter clockwise. It seems like it is welded in there. I can't use an 11/16" box end wrench because of the cotter key. I just tried again about 5 minutes ago & it will not come free. Before I break something, I'm going to pull the pump. Can't see the tube inside. Does the oil tube come out with the Pump Housing?, just curious. Thanks Zane for the help, will let you know later.

Put a small pipe wrench on it.

Pulling that pump should be the last resort and you're not goingt to hurt anything by turning the valve out.

Zane, I got the valve out. Took off the PTO cover on left side, and valve broke free. I am going to try & send a picture of the old valve. If you do not get the picture, I found the plunger inside of the spring was broken into. I hope this was my problem. Have you ever seen this problem before? Again, Thanks for the Great help along with JMOR. I will let you know the outcome.

Good news. Installed new valve, PTO shaft and PTO lever/inspection cover, added new hydraulic fluid. Started 9N up and now 3 point system works great. Thanks to all for your help, these N's will last forever. Great Forum.
