So if the valve springs cannot be changed without removing the guides, has anyone any gems of wisdom how to remove the split guides without the specialty tool shown in FO-4? Thanks

you can rent a valve spring tool at an auto parts store ,but you might want to use an air compressor to put air in the spark plug hole to keep the valve from dropping i think you can use a copression tester with the right fitting unless you removed the head from the block if so disreguard last statement

uh? jmw......the airpressure in the sparkie hole works for OHV engines but NOT the flathead 9N engine 'cuz you gotta take the cylinder head OFF to access the valves. Whole different kinda engine than yer Belchfire-V8s or RiceRockets. ......respectfully, Dell

The head is off and the spring keepers are out, but how to press guides upward without the special tool is what I am wondering Thanks
