9n Loses Power II

Follow-up related to my post couple days ago.

Believing the ignition switch to probably be the power loss problem. This 9N has a 'toggle' switch instead of the normal key'd ignition switch. Will it make any difference if I go back with same type of toggle switch? Or should I go with OEM type key'd switch. Thx, Bill

You can jump a toggle switch just as easily as you can jump a keyed switch.

As to replacement, you will get two distinctly different responses, so flip a coin. I say use the more expensive ($15, I think) OEM replacement key switch because a toggle switch is far easier to accidently turn on or leave on than a key switch. Others will tell you that all OEM replacement key switches are junk & the toggle switches last longer.

ANY switch capable of handling the ignition current will work.. however some switches offer you a lil more safety than others.

heck..I've seen a house wall lamp flip switch running an N before...

Packer.......most common hardware store toggle switches are 3-amps. Yer OEM weaksister ignition key switch is rated 5-amps. And yer ignition take how many amps to run???

I once went thru 3-switches in a summer mowin' hay before I gott grype'd and bought a waterproof 25-amp marine grade toggle switch from my local industrial electronics supply store. I had to do my own wiring. (frown) Keys, who needs them, eh? ......Dell

Dell's right...the most important thing is the switch rating...don't do the hardware store switch...get an auto or marine duty switch rated for at least 6 amps...like a fog light/accessory switch

Used simple toggle switch from local electrical parts house (matched holes too!)and working fine now.You guys know your stuff.
