9n not lifting

Thanks for all the electrical/ignition help I received this week. I brought the old 9n to life last night and it runs like a top.

Now, I discovered the lift does not work. BTW, I did pick up the F04 book and it has been very helpful.

One thing that confuses me though, when I pull the access cover off the right side and move the lift arm, I do not see anything moving as if the lever is doing something. When i start the tractor and engage the PTO, I see the fluid swirling, so believe the pump is working fine.

Thoughts? Safety valve perhaps? lever broke somewhere?

Man, what a helpful bunch you guys are. I appreciate it.

The lift arms are not hard coupled to the lift piston.. thus you can pick up the rear 3pt lift arms and not se any movement inside the housing... there is no downpressure onthis type of lift setup.

Now.. if you move the 3pt touch control handle up and down and it does not move the 't' valve thingy in and out, then it is likely stuck from a bit of grit.. etc. turn pto off and reach in and manual actuate it a few times and see if that gets it unstuck.. if so.. you may need to clean the lift housing and repalce the lube.

What part are you moving - the opertaor's control lever mounted to the right of the seat? If so it should cause the lingage inside the rear housing to move fore/aft slightly.

Yes, I am moving the control lever to try and raise the lift, but do not see anything moving through the access cover on the right side.

How tough is it to reconnect any linkage while still in the tractor, or should I just remove it first?

unless the control fork has come off the 't' valve you don't have anything to reconnect.. you just need to get it freed up and moving.

if the control fork did come loose. some pople pull the other inspection plate and lay unde rthe tractor and rach up and thru to spread the fork back onto the t-valve.. if it is loose and wants to pop off.. get creatie.. IE. zip ties or bailing waire across the fork for tension.

check that before even thinking baout pulling the lift cover... if you DO pull the lift cover.. the control fork HAS to come off the valve BEFORE you pull the cover..

If "nothing is moving" inside the cover the control lever is likely slipping where it connects to the lift control shaft. I don't know the details of that attachment but I believe it's a friction disk setup. SOunds like your's may be slipping excessively. The FO-4 has a section on adjusting the mechanism.
