9N Oil Filter Drain Fitting

T-Texas

New User
New owner of a 9N. There appears to be a drain on the metal oil filter holder. It was filled and wrapped with cloth and then wired. After removing, the drain bottom appeared to be a female copper fitting. I've been unable to find a fitting on hand that will fit as a plug. I'm at the point of removing the holder to see what I have but am hoping someone out there knows the threads and size plug I need. Thanks.

Tex.........according to my N-Ford MPC, there is a p/n: 87971-S, 1/8 x 7/16-24 thread connector; at the bottom of the oilfilter canister. The oilfilter drains by 1/8" line across the front of the engine thru the governor cup.

Early 9N's oil drained straight down into side of block. They found that the original "splash" lube to the governor balls from the camshaft gear was insufficient so they re-plumbed the oil drain to the governor cup.

Many early 9Ns oil drains were modified to the governors cup drain.........Dell

Dell, thank you very much for the info. This is my only Ford and I'm beginning to really appreciate the willingness of Ford owners to help.
