9N over run clutch

Scotts 9N

New User
Gang, I picked up an ORC for the 9N for the obvious reasons with the brush hog but it shortens the distance between PTO shaft and the brush hog drive shaft considerably (about 5") and there is no way I can make it work. These things are everywhere so there must be a correct way that I"m missing.

Any ideas?

Yep, common problem to us all. Ya gotta wack a few inches off both shaft ends - equal amount off both the inner an outer shafts to make it short enough to fit with the ORC on. Make sure you take off enough so that it does not bang up against the PTO through the entire range of the lift and not so much that it pulls apart in any position.

What BillM said. You need it to have enough travel for a bit MORE than the implement will move, up and down.

Find your old friend at the machine shop on Sat.; bring beer. Talk to him while drinking beer as your parts are cut, it will cost less...

Measure where to cut BEFORE opening beer.......thank your friend by leaving all remaining beer : )

Forgot, chamfer the rough edges off the machined parts with a file. Clean out everything to remove any grindings/machinings, then GREASE!

If ya got big arms and don't tire easilly.. pick up a couple spare hacksaw blades.. the 'good' 2$ ones.. not the 1$ pvc cuter ones.. And you can do it that way.. A chop saw or sawsall with metal cutting blades works fine too.

Remember to measure the distance you need to remove, add about 1/2".. then divide in half.. cut that much of fthe end of each tube.. PLUS the shield, if needed.

Good info on cleaning, greasing and filing a chamfer on the tube ends.
