Got a 1940 9n. Repainting the tractor. Has anyone used the Majic Massey Fergusen gray on their tractor? Is it close to the original color?

I was looking back at some old posts, and since no one replied----thought I'd answer your questions. I've used it before and looked and did real well------make sure you add the catalyst to it. Here a picture of our 41' after we did it.

I don't have a picture yet but, we used the Majic paint with a hardener. In my eyes, It looks like it has more gloss to it that Van Sickle. We would have used Van Sickle but none of the Farm stores have any in stock & don't know when they will get another shipment in. Only thing left is sandblast the rear rims & paint them before mounting the new tires on. Will post a pic once it is complete.

Majic has a very bad reputation. If you are spending under five hours on your prep, well then you won't be too discouraged when it starts to deteriorate after two years. If you are wanting to do a good job that will last, quit believing in something for nothing.

I'll keep that in mind down the road. Does the paint fade or what am I to expect?

Here is my tedder that I rebuilt a few years ago. I did the bright red parts one year and painted with some leftover 2K urethane from a Ford project. The rest of it I did a year later with Majic because it is "only a tedder." I am sure glad that it wasn't a tractor! The 2K urethane costs 2X what Majic costs but is only 1/4 what the paint most auto-body places use costs.

I've been pretty happy with the Iron Guard brand of paint for my tractors. Usually found at IHC/CASE dealerships, and they have colors for other tractors. Not impressed with the VanSickle paint for fading resistance. Magic is also a cheaper paint. If your tractor is stored indoors, nearly any paint will be OK. If it lives outdoors, get a better paint to keep it from fading.
