I left the ignition switch on and burn out my electronic ignition. The tractor was running great, but I wanted to rebuild the carb due to a leak.
I let engine run out the fuel and got distracted thereby leaving the key on. So: Rebuilt carb, new watch bowl and fuel line, new Pertronix Ignitor, coil, cap and rotor. I then bought a cheap resistor (12v coil) that burned out instantly. No, spark.

Now the carb is leaking out the side, so I took it apart and put a better gasket in it. I went to New Holland Burnups and got a quality resistor and installed it. When I tried to start it, the switch wires immediately poofed into smoke. The new resistor had managed to short. The screws were not countersunk properly on the board. I swapped the resistor to an old board and installed a new key switch.

So, finally the tractor is trying to start, but is sputtering. I check the plug wires and they are properly installed. I can not over emphasize how great this thing was running before this mishap.

Any suggestions? Thanks

The sparkplugs MAY be "fouled" by being wet with fuel through all these starting attempts.

A new set of "plugs" or simply burning them clean with a torch (IF you are confident you can do this safely) MAY make it fire up.

I solved the problem. After the second carb rebuild the float filled the air tube with fuel. I went in circles with the problem because of multiple electrical issues. Funny thing is it all started because of the carb leaking. I didn't notice the leak because I apparently did too good of a job sealing the air tube. Thanks for the input.

Shut the fuel off at the tank as a matter of practice. the older they are the better they stay "off the fuel feed" Jim
