9N Questions

Hi Ford 9N experts. Going to sell my 9N. Although not positive I believe it needs a head gasket.
Hasn't run in about 7 years. At that time I found water in the oil when I was installing a new hydraulic pump for the front end loader. Completed that job, and then found another tractor. The 9N was running at the time and as I recall no other issues. I drained all the anti-freeze out and the 9N sat until now. Its time to sell it to someone who wants to do some work and revive this guy.
Requesting input on the following:
Given the status of the tractor what is a fair price for this tractor. I live in NM and it has been outside in the shade. Also no battery, but have the battery holder. Have the head gasket and a copy of the IT Manual.

There's 2 prices on everything, Askin' and Gettin'.

I would suggest that you take a look at your local Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace and see if you can get a feel
for what things are selling for in your area. Not running, no battery, sat for years, if I was the buyer I would consider this to be a parts machine. Those of us with some experience on the old Fords might be more apt to see it as a project that might be fun. No matter what whoever takes this on is staring at a fair amount in parts.

I saw an 8N go for $800.00 a few years ago that wasn't running but looked pretty good. I would think if you could get $600~800 you would be doing well. The loader could sell for $350~$400 by itself if the pump is on it but you have to find the right guy. Tire condition could be the deciding factor for a lot of guys.

I could be wrong however.

I have seen tractor in that shape going for about $1,000, give or take. I Totally consider this a good project tractor. I am currently
working on an 8N that was in MUCH worse condition, so far I have replaced the clutch, front tires/rims, the engine(the old one was frozen so
bad it was worthless) and the flywheel (that came off the old engine). I will also be replacing the wiring. good luck selling!

My first thought going into this was right where your estimate was @ $1K, after cogitating on it for a few years, as the tractor sat.
Many factors, it seems, influence what the selling price will be: availability, season, condition, make/model etc. In NM where i live good old iron is very hard to find and with the loader i think, in retrospect 1k$ would have been a fair price.

I advertised it at $800 and the first guy to look at it bought it-- an indicator to me, i priced it a little too cheap. Also one guy, who was out of town said he would buy it once he returned.
However, money talks and BS walks.
Hind sight is 20-20! The guy that bought it was a straight shooter and i am glad he got it.

I just sold a non-running 1941 9N. I had a thread on here about a month ago if you wanted to search to see the pictures of the tractor. My motor would turn over, but I didn't have it running. Had good rubber like yours but I had the original front rims and tires. Didn't have a loader. It was just the tractor. I advertised/sold it for 500. I had over a dozen people reach out to me asking about buying the tractor. The first person who contacted me bought it. I probably could have asked more given the response I had. But, I needed it gone and was satisficed someone got a good deal for the tractor. The person who bought it between himself and family have several of these tractors. I am hoping it isn't going to be parted out because overall it was in good shape. I am in MD if that helps.
