Dell said boil the hell out of it , so boil it then put it on hot ?? and the bottom of the boot goes overtop of the bottom flange ? and not inside ??

Easier to boil a pot of water.. then take off the fire.. drop inthe boot.. let warm a minute.. fish out with tongs, and then slap it on quick... it does fit.. just needs some help..

Heat it up as stated, but before sliding it on the shifter turn it inside out and slide it on upside down so you can "roll" it over the wider base. I found this much easier than trying to stretch the base with it on the shifter. Also - some silicon lubricant or WD-40 helps as well if you have any.

Total.....the seal you and your wife just replaced is a DUST SEAL,not a water seal, contrary to what others may think.Had you bought the correct seal, just your wife could have installed it in about two minutes.Sorry you had so much trouble. As for changing the fluid,if it hasn't been changed in a while,I would, then you know the history on the fluid. don b
