thanks for the rapid input from you guys ! I took that info and some info from past posts on this site,and the starter is back working.I verified that the battery was OK and checked all terminals.Solenoid checked out OK also.Based on some old posts I decided to check if the starter had shorted out or the starter gear had jammed on the ring gear.I tried rocking the tractor back and forth,but nothing good happened.I removed the starter and spun it on my workbench.It seemed to work OK. I reinstalled the starter,and everything works fine now. I guess it was a jammed starter gear. By the way my starter gear is the new style and starter went on and off with no problem.I pulled the oil dip stick to gain a bit more clearance.Followed the forum instructions regarding the long bolts which I am sure saved me a lot of time.
