9n tractor timing

Hey guys I,m new to the n tractors but I have read alot about them and could use your help. I have a 46 (actually a 2n) that I have recently bought and I am getting it ready for spring. I had no spark so I started looking around and found a few things wrong.
First I rewired the tractor, then I looked at the distributor(front mount)and found bad bushings and a cracked and burned coil. so I removed distr. and put in nice new bushings and new points /cond. Everything looks nice set points at .015 then I went to set the timing as per Ford FO-4 manual states,,,, BUTTTTTTTTTTT I can hardly get the 1/4" spacing from the smaller hole on the distr. That is with the adjustment plate all the way to one side of adjustment. No more room in the slot. The bolt doest allow it to go any further. I am checking this measurement with the points just about to open. Any thoughts or ideas?

sapcpo........yep, we're gittin' that complaint a lot. You ain't done 'nuttin' wrong 'cept BAD points mfr. Me? I'd take a rat-tail file and elongate that screw slot. Simple, eh? Remember to "polish" the points with $1-bill between the points. They gitt INVISIBLE corrosion. And ALWAYS, I say ALWAYS use the "infamous ballast resistor" (underneath yer ammeter) or you will be buying 'nutter' squarecan ignition coil .......Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Thanks, I bought the better points too.($12.00 ) I think Blue streak. And a extra cheap set. Mabe i should have tried them too. I hope it runs ok. I will make the slot a hair longer. The only problem is then the contact screw is not in the center of the housing. The coil springgy thing is centered so its not the perfect setup. I will have to make sure it does not touch the housing and short. That is pretty bad when you cant even set timming correctly with new points . What points are the best to use and where do I find them. I got my parts from Ncomplete.

sapcpo........geeze, I change points every 10-yrs whether they need it or not (grin) external_link is a quality supplier. You might mention yer problem to them. Let them gitt on their supplier fer lousy parts. ........Dell
