9N won't lift

Ok I thought I found a bargain bought a 9n that was grandpa"s that was just sitting in the shed. After fixing the bent valve and rebuilding the carb finally got it running to find I had no lift I found the T valve had fell out since I was already there I went ahead and took the cover off to replace the O rings but it already had steel rings so put it back together with new fluid worked great stayed up overnight then hooked up box blade and it won"t go up it just jerks like it is trying but won"t go. I have a 801 that is a workhorse this is my first N tractor so far to to happy. Please advise. And thanks for your help.

The 3 steel rings are the old style piston and cylinder rings and we tell people to change that to the newer improved NAA type O-ring and back up washer which are gap-less

With the engine not running reach in and move the control valve stem fore and aft. It's probably sticking. The push it forward and start the tractor to see if it lifts.

The 9N has a different control system (Ferguson System) then the 8N so it's doubtful that an 8N set of trouble shooting instructions will allow you to properly diagnose a 2N/9N system.

Thanks for all the help. Good to know about replacing the steel rings I will change them if I have to take off the top. I got the side cover off and stuck my hand in there everything was together. The T shaped piston thing ( sorry not a N expert) moved freely and it would move in and out with the lift handle So I started it and the fluid seemed to be flowing properly and seen no leaks coming from the top. I took a screwdriver and moved the piston in and it raised up fine if I held it in place the lift would stay up. So what is supposed to keep it in place? Is the linkage messed up. What should I do next? Again thanks for the help

By piston, i think you're refering to the control valve as a "psiton". If that's so, did you have the lift lever full up also? If the lever was full up than the control valve should have been pushed to the neutral position. If the lever was in the drop position and you then moved the the control valve to the lift position with the screw driver, then when you took the pressure off the valve the control linkage would move the valve to the drop position.

The lever was in the up position. I thought maybe the relief valve was no going in far enough so I took it out and stretched
The spring a little and put it all back together and now it pulsates I can watch it thru the cover. Any help would be appreciated
