A air cleaner

Hi All,
The old girl is running better, still working on carb gremlins.
It seems that it runs better with air cleaner hooked up.
I have 5w-30 in it. Without it the choke needs to be almost
closed. There is also frost on the intake portion of the manifold.
Working on clearing out idle circuit. Is this typical?

Thanks, Bob. 46 A

Frost on the intake is typical in cold humid weather with a cold gas type manifold. After the engine gets hot it'll melt away, meanwhile you will have to keep the rpm's up to avoid stalling. It's just normal carburetor icing.

5-30 is fine in the air cleaner..

When it is running right, you will not need any choke, with or without the air cleaner oil cup on..

That oil in the cup is constantly being sucked up into the metal Gauze, to flush dust and dirt down and into the oil cup..
So, once the oil is drawn up into the gauze, it offers much less restriction than you would think..

Ron..

If you haven't had the carb completly apart including plugs passages and nozzle and physically run the right drills thru the different passages it prob. still is stopped up with rust. Just my 2 cents worth
