A/C WD45 diesel ?

I am seeking information out of ignorance regarding
A/C tractors, especially the WD45 diesel unit. What
diesel engines were used, are these units "rare" or
common and are there problems to watch out for
concerning the A/C WD45 diesels?
Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

I'm not real familiar with them, but I know they were known for cracking heads. I think the injector setup on them was a maintenance issue as well. I know they bring at least a 2x premium over a WD45, but I also know the engine is insanely expensive if it's not in running condition.

I have a 1956 WD-45D and like it. It's one of my favorite chore tractors. The diesel motor has always ran good with no problems. As with all diesels, proper maintenance and quality oil will keep them alive for thousands of hours. I've had this tractor for 20 years and I'm the third owner. Great machine. PK

Dad had one years ago and it was a very good tractor. It was wide front and factory power steering.Traded it on a John Deere 2510 in about 1987.I will agree about the cracked head problem as that was common even on the D17 diesel as well.Local shop welded quite a few years ago.

Sense we're talking WD Diesels, I thought I'd throw in a picture of mine. The loader was put on at the dealer when sold new in South Dakota. The wife of the original owner lives a few miles away. I didn't know this until last year but have known her for some years. Small world. PK
