A computer is stool, right? Firefox question

Been using Firefox browser for years. Last night they updated it. The text is different and there's a new header box that takes up too much space IMO. I want it to look like it did before the update. I've searched but can't figure out how to do that. Anyone have any ideas?

I really wish the tech companies would just leave stuff alone for us simpletons!

Can you just turn off the new box by going to view, then toolbars and then unchecking it? The new version doesn't seem to take up any more space on mine, though the new colors and look are definitely NOT an improvement.

Go to top right, click on hamburger icon, try preferences or customize toolbar.
Might not get what you want but it is a start.
Starting with version 88.0 Firefox changed the screenshot feature. Now I can only take screenshots of web pages.
Used to be able to take screenshot of anything I wanted such as photos saved as jpg
.

I don't have a "hamburger icon". All I know is now I have 3 lines of text at the top of the page where before it was just 2. Now I have the Menu Bar, a header line and then the page forward/back/refresh line with the site address on it. Before the 2nd and 3rd line were combined. They only took up about 5/8" at the top pf the page. Now I've got 1 1/8" of space taken up. I can't find any help on going back to the earlier appearance. Thanks for the help though.

I guess I don't pay much attention to the top headers.

When I need full screen it is just a quick tap on F11

You should be able to right click most anywhere on the toolbar and chose customize toolbar. It'll open a new tab where you can drag stuff to and away from the toolbar. One time I lost my search bar and had to do this to get it back.

Put cursor to very top of page , right click, choose menu bar.Click, What happens? Click again what happens?

Tried that, no luck, but thanks.

I lose my "File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help" line. Guess I'm just going to have to live with it. They changed some other stuff too. Can't get Enhancer for You Tube in the picture screen with full screen anymore, so if an ad starts I have to exit out of fullscreen to access the ad killer! WHY DO THEY DO THIS?????!!!!!! Just like taking Win 7 and "improving it" to Win 10! Win 10 SUCKS!!! compared to 7!

If you right click on the very top bar do you see "menu bar"? If yes it needs to be checked to see....file Edit View and so on. I too got stuck with the "improved" Firefox and have not found a way to revert back.

I've never seen a need for any "ad killer" on youtube. 99% of the time you can skip after 5 seconds, and the ads you can't skip last no more than 15 seconds. If it wasn't for the ads youtube would not exist, so I figure a few seconds of "sacrifice" here and there is a fair exchange for the hours of information and entertainment I derive.

You could always just watch broadcast TV and get stuck with 3-4 MINUTES of commercials at a crack, with no way to skip over them. At least with youtube they figured out that 5 seconds is more than enough to get your brand name out there.

Why would I want to watch ads? Google is one of the wealthiest corporations in the world, and they support a great many causes I am vehemently opposed to. Why would I support them by watching stupid ads for things I don't want that waste my time? My hope is that Rumble starts getting the same quantity and quality videos YT does so I don't have to support Google at all. I don't WANT to support Google, Amazon, Twitter, etc with my time and dollars. Same reason I use Firefox instead of Chrome or Edge or any MS spyware system and why I don't use Google for a search engine. I am not comfortable making the giant left wing oligarch corporations attempts to track and control me any easier than it already is!

If you are using windows then it has a system restore that allows you to go back to a different date and time. Giggle it to see how to get there. It will take you back to the one you select but you may lose any other updates you have done in between the dates. It will affect programs and not saved data files.

Anytime you do an update of anything it is always good to go to system restore and tell it save it at that time otherwise it seems like the system saving times can be sporadic in the past. It does take up more space on your hard drive to save the old system setups but worth it.

IF you're that vehement about it why watch youtube at all?

Rumble is NEVER going to catch youtube or even be a fraction of its size.

I had it set to auto update. I wouldn't have known it was going to do what it did anyway. Kinda the old rock and hard place thing I guess.

If it doesn't bother you, fine, watch the ads. Just because you aren't bothered by it doesn't mean I have to think the same way.

Same thing hit my computer just today. It asked first, I said no, but it did it anyway. I can live with it, but I don't like it.

I just don't understand why they'd engineer it to take up more screen space. Even my bookmarks are spread out over a longer column now. I've tried resizing, etc and it makes no difference if I still want to be able to see the text. And I tried changing the test too and that doesn't seem to take. "NEW!" "IMPROVED!!!" seems like an oxymoron or something to me.

My thoughts exactly. Very few of these "upgrades" actually improve anything. It is only just different, and usually make things more difficult.

If you are mildly computer literate and can follow instructions (or have a helper who can) you might want to look into a Pi Hole. This device based on a Raspberry Pi computer ($10-$40 + case and PS ~$25)
and is configured as a DNS server. A DNS server is the device that translates an address like www.ytmag.com to a series of numbers that is used to actually access the internet. By using the Pi to block
those addresses that correspond to the most common ad servers, you can eliminate ads from your download. It will free up bandwidth and make things load faster also.

There are a number of sites that have this as a kit, that requires very little to put together. There will be some router configuration required.

It may not get all or your ads, but it will get most. They show up as blank spaces on the screen.

There are lots of how tos and articles online.
