A hay mowing video.....

I had some time to crunch some footage & this is the result. Not too shabby, considering my new camera "crew" is a bit green.

The hay this year is a bit short, due to the lack of good rains, at the right time. I got about 1/3 of what I usually get on this cutting & same for the first one. Looks like there might be a third cutting there if the weather cooperates. Which..... as we get into fall..... becomes less likely by the day. Though not impossible.

Enjoy!

My father-in-law used a NH crusher like that but never behind the mower as it was intended, only directly on the tractor as a separate operation. Maybe because it didn't match up with his COOP mower. I used it until I got a MoCo. It was pretty troublesome and I couldn't give it away. I eventually scrapped it.

All hay conditioners had the issue of plugging in tall crops & tangled messes. The NH crimpers were a bear to untangle. I think that's because the rollers didn't separate to unplug it easier. The IH conditioners separate the rollers when lifted all the way. If you can't pull the whole wad out then, it's easy enough to remove a little at a time. By the time half of it is picked apart, it'll pull through ok.

Mine had smooth steel rolls. Seemed to work a little better in the morning with dew on the crop. Worked better if the hay fell back from the mower. Tangled and down hay was the worst.

My question is how how does it take to dry ? We got high humidity here . Just wondering how long to dry in the dells?

A couple two three days. Then you're only going to get a couple hour window after lunch. With it being as heavily overcast here, along with high humidity..... I'm a bit curious about what drying times would be like, in these conditions. Thinking it would be trying times if anything. Definitely forage harvester weather!

I keep thinking about the days before hay conditioners. That hay had to be a brown mess! Or black with the clover in it.

Then there's all that dust!

Everything in northeast Ohio take three to five days .
That includes just about everything ! Except rust ,that instantly, weeds two days!

So ⚡️I would say three 3️⃣ days , your doing very good 👍🏻 figuring that have a few more three to five day projects in the works ⚡
