A little more done

Along with everything else I'm fixing, I have cleaned and painted the instrument panel & lower panel. I took the SOS selector apart, cleaned it, & painted it also. I'm just waiting to get the new decal for the selector, to reassemble it.

I will also be getting a new proofmeter & a Sunpro fuel gauge to match the others. I'll now have a proofmeter, fuel, volt, themp, & oil pressure gauges. (Ya, I know they are not OEM, but it doesn't matter to me.) I cleaned, and installed everything back together again. I also have to a get a column grommet. Once everything is back together, and back on the tractor, I'll rewire everything.

I have completely rebuilt the Rest-O-Ride seat. I primed the seat, and waiting to paint it also. I will get new rubber springs for it later, but for now, I'll use the old ones. It will be a bit yet before I put my butt into it, to drive it.

Nice job on the SOS letters on the shifter! Can I get the details on how you did that? Did you use a brush, or did you dab it
on with a sponge, or ??

Bern,
Actually, I painted it, and then use a fine flat file, and removed the paint. It' aluminum, and is shiny. I could coat it with clear, but the clear will dull, or yellow in the sun. Using oils in you hand, or put a light amount oil on your hand, and rub it every so often will keep it shiny.

Or you could use a hard rubber roller (I have a small printers roller), with only a light amount of paint on it, and roll it on a couple of times to built up the color. Which I have done on things in the past.

I agree with the others! Great job1 I, too, am especially impressed with the look of the wording on the shifter.

While I have your attention, What color is the air cleaner suppose to be. I see it both white, and I see it blue. I'm leaning towards blue.

It's a '63 4000 diesel.

Thanks, Pat

Here's what it was like. I soaked it molasses to remove the rust, then washed it, then I lightly wire wheeled it to remove the flash rust. I tack weld a piece of tin under the light hole, for the pilot drill, not to plug the hole. Then used a hole saw to cut a new hole for the fuel gauge.

Blue it will be, for the air cleaner. It's all primed up. But I need to put the wire mesh back in first. I have them soaking in Kerosene.

My '64 4000 diesel has a white air cleaner. I believe it's OEM.

Honestly. blue would look kind of gauche to me!

I had to look it up!

gauche: lacking ease or grace; unsophisticated and socially awkward

I painted it blue today!

Like what you did on the paint. Would you detail what paint you used and the steps taken to complete it? would sure appreciate it.

I clean the parts by soaking them in molasses to remove the rust. I use a bench grinder with a 6" wire wheel, and a hand air grinder with a 3" wire wheel lightly & 3M scotch Brite where needed, to get the flash rust off the now clean bare metal, after washing it with pressure washer.

I use light gray primer, I let it dry over night, then put 2-3 coats of "Majic" paint on. I use the "Ford Blue" not the "New Ford blue", and the white, I don't remember the exact name of the white. I'd have to go outside and check the name. I get the paint from Tractor Supply. I let the paint dry for a day or so. That's it! I am just starting to prime, and paint the white parts.

I painted the alt, and fuel lines, etc with Dupli-Color DE1650 Ceramic Cast Coat Aluminum Engine Paint.

Thanks, Pat

Jim, if you are planning a job you should get a lot more information on procedures and materials. After all, I expect that you would like it to look good for years and not just days.

I guess your an expert on Majic paint, but even so, you could have been polite, and said it in a PM.

Besides, I'm painting mine to use everyday, not sit on a shelf like some do! It's a tractor, not a barbie doll. I don't give a darn if it gets scratched.

Today I got my new SOS select indicator decal. It's a good thing I put decals on before, or I'd have to buy another new one. lol It's concave, and curved, and slightly shorter on both ends then original.

Still waiting for the column grommet, and O-rings for the lift cover.

So I pulled 2 chevy 350's apart. I'm going to rebuild the better of the two, and a 7000r4 transmission, for my truck. And did a bunch of welding on my coupe.
