A Matched Pair

Finally finished painting the sheetmetal on the 1950 6v frontmount in the foreground. This was my first N that I bought in 1999 and still is a working tractor. The engine was rebuilt in 2002. I added a Sherman Hi-Lo last year. This year, I did the rear seals & brakes & painted it.

My only disappointment was that one of the hatbox rims is probably beyond repair. If not, I'd still worry about putting it on a working tractor w/ filled tires, so I had to put new loop rims on it.

Many thanks to all the help from you folks!

Wow Bruce--those look great!! Great looking place too!! I still have the 1952 in pieces so hopefully the weather will cooperate and I can finish cleaning and painting! Thanks for sharing--Strong Pair!!

Omni acrylic enamel. The paint dealer had the grey in his catalog: Ford Tractor Gray, 31657. No red in the catalog, but he matched it to the inside of a tool box & a couple of other parts. Turns out it was also a Ford color used on Torino's, # 72266.

Great Job Bruce......Just two questions.....How many 8ns do you have?
and..... does your wife give you as much trouble as mine does regarding
regarding your collection?
Cheers, Ed

Nicely done. I've only restored one tractor and can appreciate the work involved. They look very nice. Nice looking home too.

Ed, I'm down from 4 to 3 8N's now (sold one to a neighbor) and a 740 row crop.

The wife is pretty good about the number of tractors. I've tested the limits a few times (e.g., no solvents or painting in the in-house garage & her car has a garage) but overall, not much whining. She hand painted the script on both hoods. And can stick her hand in an inspection port to seat a control rod.

It helped once when a girlfriend was complaining about the annual cost of her husbands golf hobby (green fees, club memberships or whatever) and I casually mentioned that I could buy 2 N's for that kind of money.

Beautiful tractors!!!

Could you briefly describe the difference between the Hatbox and loop rims. I believe by tractor to be a 52 or so and is, I believe, mostly original. What type of rims would it have orginally had in place?
