A simple 8N question.

Yesterday I got a little seat time, and I noticed that the check chain brackets had been put on upside down.(the guy I bought it from had split it in half and replaced pto seal and shaft) When I remove the 4 bolts on the brackets, will fluid come out of the bolt holes? Thank you. Dave WI

Dave..........giggle, NO!!! the 4-bolts around yer PTO that hold the check-chains are non-leakers........Dell

Thanks Dell. That's what I figured, but I thought I'd get a second opinion, since I didn't want a pool of hydraulic fluid in my father-in-law's shed! This will probably be the last work I get done on it until spring.

I just last week turned them around on a 48 8n & the bottom right bolt leaked some hyd fluid. Maybe the seal is bad on this tractor,but there was no fluid coming out around the PTO shaft.You might want to have a pail & rag handy,just in case. Wayne

Well, on my 8N, the bottom holes leak. Apparently at some time in the past, longer bolts were used & it sorta broke off the castings inside so the holes go into the oil cavity. So, I would recommend keeping a bucket handy if u don't wanta mess up the floor! Apparently, this is rather a common occurance on these tractors. Might not but like the Boy Scouts say...Be Prepared!!
