I have an A john deere tractor that always ran good. Took it out of the garage yesterday, ran good, shut off restarted, shut off again wont restart. Puffs on ether through exaust but wont fire. I changed the plugs, fresh gas and I do have spark. Wires are good, Battery strong.Plugs dont seem to be getting wet but would think on ether she would start.Mag throws a spark but the spark is yellow. Rotor and cap is not new but doest look bad. Tried to pull start it and just puffs smoke through exaust pipe. Im getting ------ off! Any ideas guys. This tractor has treated me good for over 35 years. I only use this A to plow the snow out of my drive way in winter. Would have bet it was the ethinol gas here in Wisconsin. Any help would be appreciated. Have a great weekend. Ron

Tune up the mag with fresh points and rotor and cap, If you have the ethinol gas in it you may want to drain it & put some unleaded plus in it.
Some time it's the tractor turn for some TLC.
Good Luck Ben

Anytime a "Mag" equipped JD 2-cylinder gets suddenly "Hard to start"..or..impossible to start, check for any sign of moisture behing the mag cover or carbon-tracking there too..

If is has been left outside over night, it can have moisture in the mag and won't start..
Sometimes, all it needs is to take the mag cap off and let the morning sun shine on it for a few minutes and it will start fine..
This was very common with out JD "B" tractors, as they often had to set out over-night..
Sure woke up a lot of neighbor-hoods with their Back-Fireing and throwing Fire..as they fought us to get them started..!!
It was nearly always moisture...they were working probably 18 hours a day...so the plugs seldom caused any problems..
Even saw Dad hand-Start one with a mounted corn picker on it once.. with the steering wheel..!!

Spark Should be Blue between each plug wire and plug indicating good hot spark. Yellow indicates it's weak so look along this line first.
